A New Generation of Leaders

Each academic year, Free to Be nominates a few exceptional Peer Educators to serve on the Youth Advisory Board (YAB).

These teens meet regularly to:

  • Plan upcoming events
  • Advise the staff about today’s youth culture
  • Assist with Peer Educator recruitment
  • Provide supportive relationships for newer Peer Educators

The Youth Advisory Board for 2011/2012 is:

JosephJoseph, Age 18

"I'm in my second year at Free to Be. I am involved in Free to Be because I am choosing to wait to have sex and I like to help explain to others the benefits of waiting."

"I'm in my third year at Free to Be.  I love to share the message of abstinence with teens in the community.  It is something that needs to be heard and I feel so privileged to be a part of such an awesome program!"

"I'm in my first year at Free to Be.  I am involved in Free to Be because it's the chance to share with other teenagers that there are other teenagers remaining abstinent.  It also gives me a way to share and voice my opinions."

"I'm in my second year at Free to Be. I want to show others that they have options.  As a young latina, I want to be a part of breaking sterotypes and share with my peers that you can wait to be sexually active and avoid pregnancy as a teen.divider
