About Us
Free to Be began in 1992 with a handful of volunteers and a vision to reach the youth of Sonoma County. Today, our educators speak in classrooms and to youth serving organizations throughout Northern California, sharing the option of postponing sex until marriage.
We teach strategies for:
- Forming healthy relationships
- Setting goals for the future
- Making well thought out decisions
- Responding to pressure situations
- Setting boundaries in relationships
Our six age-appropriate program components include interactive activities and promote classroom discussion. In every presentation, Free to Be's speakers share their personal reasons for remaining abstinent and serve as role models for their peers.
A unique model
Our innovative peer panel approach serves as a model for teen pregnancy prevention education at over 40 sites in Northern California each year. To learn how to replicate the Free to Be Teen Panel Model in your community, click here.
Why abstinence?
Free to Be believes that practicing abstinence from sexual activity until marriage is the safest and healthiest choice for teens. In addition to providing teens with accurate information, we challenge and motivate them to value themselves and their future. We provide the tools which enable them to live out their choices in confidence.
Who do we serve?
Currently, Free to Be is active in Sonoma County in Northern California. We speak to over 4,000 youth every year, and since 1992, we have brought our message to over 80,000 teens! To schedule a Free to Be informational presentation for your group, contact Sue.
